About Gristle Tattoo

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Gristle Tattoo a vegan tattoo shop in Brooklyn?
We’re proud to be a 100% vegan-owned and operated tattoo studio based in Brooklyn. Everything we use—from stencil paper and razors to inks, soaps, and aftercare—is completely vegan and cruelty-free. We also actively support and fundraise for animal welfare organizations.

How do I book an appointment with a specific tattoo artist in Brooklyn?
Each of our Brooklyn-based artists manages their own schedule. You can reach out to them directly via email to book a consultation or appointment. Be sure to include your tattoo idea, reference images, and the desired size and placement. You can also fill out [THIS FORM] and let us know which artist you’re interested in working with.

How do I book a tattoo appointment if I don’t have a specific artist in mind?
If you’re unsure which artist is the best fit for your idea, just fill out [THIS FORM] with details about your tattoo concept and any reference images. We’ll pair you with a skilled tattoo artist in Brooklyn whose style best suits your design—whether it’s blackwork, fine line, illustrative, or something else.

Do you accept walk-ins at your Brooklyn tattoo studio?
While our artists are usually booked in advance, we do occasionally have openings due to cancellations. Give us a call to check for same-day tattoo availability in our Brooklyn shop—we’ll do our best to fit you in!

What’s the cost of a tattoo in Brooklyn at Gristle?
Our artists charge between $175–$350 per hour, with minimums starting at $100+. Pricing depends on the artist, design complexity, and placement. We’ll give you a clear estimate during your consultation.

What is the legal age to get tattooed in New York?
You must be 18+ to get a tattoo in New York State—no exceptions. Even with a parent or a doctor’s note, it’s illegal to tattoo a minor.

Can I get tattooed while pregnant or breastfeeding?
No. Due to our insurance policy and health regulations, we cannot tattoo anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding—no exceptions, even with a doctor’s note or pumping plan.

Do I need to leave a deposit for my tattoo appointment?
Yes, all tattoo appointments require a non-refundable deposit, which goes toward the final cost. Your artist will share their specific deposit policy and amount. You can pay directly or through our website [HERE].

What’s your cancellation and rescheduling policy?
Each tattoo artist at Gristle has their own policy, which will be shared when booking. In general, cancellations or reschedules made within 72 hours (or 1 week for most artists) result in forfeiture of your deposit. Arriving more than 20 minutes late also counts as a cancellation.

Do you offer touch-ups for tattoos?
Yes, we offer one complimentary touch-up within the first year if your tattoo needs it. This excludes new additions or redesigns. Fine line tattoos or pieces on high-friction areas like hands, fingers, or feet may fade faster—please keep that in mind when choosing placement.

Can I get a hand, finger, neck, face, or foot tattoo at Gristle?
Not all of our Brooklyn tattoo artists work on high-wear or visible areas. Please discuss your desired placement in advance and be open to alternative suggestions based on the artist’s comfort level.

Can I bring a guest to my tattoo appointment?
To keep our studio comfortable and focused, we recommend coming alone. If space allows, one guest may wait in the front area—18+ only, due to state laws.

Do you offer piercings or sell body jewelry?
No, we are a tattoo-only studio focused on high-quality, custom and flash tattoos in Brooklyn.

How should I prepare for my tattoo session?
Come well-rested, hydrated, and with a full meal in your belly. Bring a government-issued photo ID (like a license or passport). Wear comfy clothes and plan ahead so you’re not rushed!

What’s the best way to care for my new tattoo?
Use a gentle, unscented soap (like Dr. Bronner’s) and a light layer of coconut or grapeseed oil to moisturize. Avoid soaking, sun, and intense workouts while your tattoo heals. If using Tegaderm, remove it after 24 hours and follow standard aftercare instructions. Your artist will also provide detailed written and verbal guidelines.

Is there parking near your Brooklyn tattoo studio?
Yes! There’s free street parking around the shop, though it can get bust at time. Allow extra time and always check street signs.

Do your tattoo artists offer flash specials?
Yes! Many of our Brooklyn tattoo artists regularly release flash designs—perfect if you’re looking for inspiration or a spontaneous ink session.

Do you offer Friday the 13th tattoo deals in Brooklyn?
Absolutely. Gristle Tattoo is known for our Friday the 13th flash events. Keep an eye on our Instagram or check back here closer to the date for previews and booking info.
